okay i have to address this:

first: not every response can be replied to. that may seem harsh or silly, but it’s true. sometimes you get a response to an open and you have no idea where to go from there, or it makes no sense, or there’s no good way for  your muse to respond, or any number of things. this is not against anyone who replies, it’s just an error in communication or styles not clicking with each other.

second: sometimes you get an overwhelming amount of responses. i once posted an open that wound up with about fifty notes in ten minutes. i seriously cannot reply to that many people. i wind up overwhelmed, panicking, and having to get off tumblr. this mentality of ‘i am obligated to rp with someone and respond to every single post’ turns something that’s supposed to be fun for me into something that’s stressful, and that’s not cool.

open posts mean anyone is allowed to respond. they do not mean ‘i must reply to everyone, even the ones that don’t make sense for my muse, or that i don’t have time for’.
