“Yeah, but it’s money, I feel like I really can’t complain.” Not to mention, he’d feel all the more guilty taking anything from this man. This man is not only someone he looks up to, but someone he wouldn’t dream of taking advantage of either— while he’s offering help, he just feels strange taking it, “Thank you very much, but you’ve done so much for me already, I couldn’t take from you, even if it’s being offered.”
There was a tiny, familiar sort of smile on Steve’s face at Pierce’s response. I wouldn’t have accepted it either. “Well, if you won’t accept it, I guess I can’t force you. But I really do want to help out. It’s no inconvenience, no trouble. If there’s anything in the world I can help you get through this rough spot, consider it done.”
